ERLANGER , KY , January 3, 2007—Cignal Systems has added TV One to its approved equipment list after the C2-7000 Series performed to perfection in two separate live events that were done by their sister company Logic System. The two live events incorporated Edge Blending and High Definition sources. Cignal Systems believes in rigid equipment testing before selling it to their customers.
“Our sister company, Logic Systems, does rental and staging. Our system designers and installers are all actively involved in production to keep us focused on solutions that we know will work,” said Peter Wille, Manager of Visual Technologies for Cignal Systems. ”We try to never spec a piece of equipment that we have not used ourselves in a production environment. If we aren’t willing to use it in the professional production world, we don’t want the customer to suffer through it.”
In the first test, the Lutheran Foundation of St. Louis wanted to highlight their 20 years of service to the community, so they invited 7,500 of their friends from over 450 social service agencies to the Scottrade Center for an afternoon of celebration. Cignal Systems was selected to produce the event, develop the high definition video content, and design the technical systems and content. Their sister company, Logic Systems Sound and Lighting, provided the technical production support for the event.
Logic System’s challenge was to seamlessly integrate High Definition video, brilliant graphics, text keying and four live High Definition camera feeds into a multi-media extravaganza. The presentation served to highlight their partner agencies and bring to the large area an intimate encounter with those persons whose lives have been changed by Lutheran Foundation’s support.
With a 40’ by 17’ rear projection screen illuminated by four projectors, Logic Systems utilized three of TV One’s C2-7200 units, two for Edge Blending and one for source switching, to manage the diverse content. A TV One CC-300 hardware controller was used to handle the actual switching and system control of the C2-7200’s enabling the celebration to go off without a hitch.
Visual Technologies decided that the CORIO2 C2-7200 products might be as good as TV One claimed. One more test would seal the deal if the performance noted in the first test could be duplicated.
At the Touhill Performing Arts Center, also in St Louis, Contemporary Productions hosted a tribute to Maynard Ferguson, one of the greatest Trumpet players of all time. With the assistance of the Ferguson family and Maynard’s manager, Cignal Systems produced a video retrospective consisting of photographs and video taken throughout his life. The high definition video served as a textured backdrop to the music and included taped tributes from jazz players that were unable to attend. The evening was documented using four high definition cameras providing footage for a DVD to be released by Contemporary Productions. Logic Systems Sound and Lighting, Inc, provided technical production support and provided the multi-track audio recording for the DVD sound track.
Using the same approach as at the Lutheran Foundation celebration, a 40’ by 17’ rear projection screen was illuminated by four projectors with three TV One C2-7200 units again doing the heavy lifting. A TV One CC-300 hardware controller was used to handle the actual switching and system control of the C2-7200’s.
“We chose the TV One units based on performance and flexibility. Since we were using High Definition video sources, the quality of the signal was critical. All source material was created at custom resolutions so that we could work at the native resolutions of the projectors. We appreciated being able to control so many parameters of each input and output. Since we were using the projectors on scaffolding 25 feet above the floor, being able to nudge the position, scale and blending of each projector from front-of-house enabled us to produce a stunning image,” said Willie. “The C2 units did an excellent job of mixing a variety of inputs; DVI, VGA, Composite, Component, all giving us a high quality, consistent image.”
